No extension: ARC deadline holds as Kaggle queues stretch

The clock keeps running

There will be no extension to the ARC Prize competition deadline despite the long Kaggle scoring queues and GPU slowdowns. The deadline remains Monday, November 2, at 11:59 p.m. UTC, an ARC Prize Discord moderator said in an announcement shared with the Digest by its editor.

The moderator said the decision followed a conversation with the ARC Prize president and that Kaggle leadership strongly advised against extending the deadline. The schedule had been public for nine months, the moderator said, and a last-minute change would be unfair to teams that had planned their compute and submissions around it.

The moderator acknowledged the severity of the queue times and slowdowns and said ARC Prize was working directly with Kaggle. The advice to competitors: plan for delays and submit final runs as early as possible.

A decision, but more questions remain

The decision answers a question that has hung over the competition as teams reported failed runs, zeros and lost time. On October 26, Kaggle staff member María Cruz said engineers were investigating broader platform issues affecting ARC-AGI-3 runs and asked competitors to hold off on sending individual submission IDs or tagging engineers because of limited capacity. Earlier, a Kaggle engineer said some rescores were running.

Competitors have also asked how affected nonzero runs will be treated: a run can finish while still losing useful solving time. The moderator’s announcement did not set out a complete remedy or a timetable for resolving the slowdowns.

For ARC-AGI-2, previous Kaggle staff guidance said submissions made before the deadline could continue scoring afterward, but a pending run still had to be selected among the two final submissions before the deadline. That guidance was for ARC-AGI-2.
