Clear the floor: meet The Last Dance, ARC3’s top-five showstoppers

Florian Sestak at left, Lukas Aichberger at front centre, Mykyta Ielanskyi at right and a fictional masked dancer representing the unidentified gklambauer account breakdance on a luminous ARC-grid floor while the scoring-hall cast cheers.
The Last Dance takes the floor. Three characters follow their own Kaggle portraits; the purple-and-yellow masked fourth dancer is a fictional stand-in for gklambauer, whose name and likeness remain unconfirmed. AI editorial illustration, commissioned by Mark Barney. Dancing, costumes, scale and machinery are fantasy; the reporting uses October 29 public standings.

Fifth in the world. Clear a space.

The Last Dance has earned the spotlight. Fifth on the ARC-AGI-3 public board among nearly 5,000 teams, the four-account entry is still in the thick of the chase. Ahead sits xz’s newly arrived cat; behind, yktori is less than half a point away. Nobody in this part of the hall gets to put their feet up.

There is more to this act than a good name and a dancing emoji. Three members can be named directly: Florian Sestak, Lukas Aichberger and Mykyta Ielanskyi, all with research ties to Johannes Kepler University Linz. The fourth registered account is gklambauer. The cast brings a veteran’s Kaggle silverware, a robotics competition past and an award-winning logic-puzzle paper into the same entry.

And they have already made the field look twice. On October 5, the saved board caught The Last Dance jumping from twenty-sixth to third. On October 16, another advance carried it from seventh back to third. Thursday’s fifth place is another scene in an established contender’s campaign. These are public standings; the private finish still lies ahead.

So who is underneath the stage lights? Pull up a chair.

Florian Sestak: silverware, school exams and a long apprenticeship

The fses91 handle belongs to Florian Sestak. His Kaggle profile links straight to the GitHub account carrying his full name. Our earlier notebook knew him only as Florian; that missing surname is now settled.

Sestak has a proper competition scrapbook. His completed-results page records silver for thirty-eighth of 4,463 in the Santander Value Prediction Challenge, plus bronze finishes in NFL Helmet Assignment, Jigsaw Unintended Bias and Porto Seguro’s Safe Driver Prediction. The Jigsaw result belongs to a shared entry. His record also includes ARC Prize 2025. This is a return to the arena with years of experience behind him.

The old discussions supply the personality. In January 2018 he was openly asking why competitors transformed their prediction targets. By April 2019, he was telling fellow Santander contestants that his approach had taken him into the gold ranks before exams interrupted his campaign. When he returned, he wrestled with the gap between his own validation results and the leaderboard, and thanked people whose notebooks improved his skills even when they did not improve his placing. The questions, the frustration, the generosity: you can follow the apprenticeship in his own posts.

This season brought a different sort of exam. Before the first ARC3 milestone, Sestak publicly described holding a top-three position for four days with nine submissions, then slipping to fourth. His supervisor, Günter Klambauer, proudly amplified the account. Before the second milestone, Sestak announced he was back among the top ten. On October 11, he was in the Kaggle forum helping another competitor find the grid-and-action documentation.

Away from the board, his own career record runs from data science at Siemens and 7LYTIX to doctoral research at JKU. His research works with generative models for biology and physics; the LaM-SLidE paper gives that work a public face. There is a lot of mileage behind the black cap and sunglasses.

Lukas Aichberger: he was competing with robots before this dance

Lukas Aichberger’s contest story reaches back well before the present LLM race. He and Florian Müller represented Austria in Mobile Robotics at EuroSkills 2016, finishing fifth in the official results. Their school had celebrated the pair as national runners-up. That is a different Florian from teammate Florian Sestak—and a very different arena from Kaggle—but the competitive streak is on the record.

Since then, Aichberger has built a research career around making AI reason efficiently and recognise when it might be wrong. His own biography says he completed his AI doctorate through the ELLIS programme, co-supervised by Sepp Hochreiter and Yarin Gal, worked with Oxford’s OATML group, and worked on reasoning and post-training at Apple. That is quite a route from the mobile-robotics floor to the scoring hall.

His 2026 paper with Hochreiter, Reasoning in Memory, asks whether a language model can work through a problem in an internal workspace instead of spelling out every intermediate thought. It is an appealing idea for anyone watching agents spend their time thinking—but the paper is a research achievement, not a disclosure of The Last Dance’s competition recipe.

For our recurring cast, Lukas keeps the swept brown hair and friendly, clean-shaven face of his own Kaggle cartoon. We have given him an ARC-grid hoodie and the middle of the dance floor. His public research profile invites ambitious collaborations in reasoning, post-training and agent safety. There is a next chapter taking shape beyond this competition, too.

Mykyta Ielanskyi: the bearded puzzle man already has an award

The dwellement0baser account is Mykyta Ielanskyi, whose Kaggle profile identifies him as a research scientist at JKU’s Institute for Machine Learning. His earlier competition history includes a team appearance in Kaggriculture. But the trophy worth bringing into this introduction comes from his reasoning research.

Ielanskyi was one of the six authors honoured with an Outstanding Paper Award at the ICLR 2026 Workshop on Logical Reasoning of Large Language Models. The paper, From Natural Language to Exact Cover: A Neuro-Symbolic Approach to Zebra Puzzles, connects a language model’s reading ability with a symbolic solver’s exact reasoning. JKU records the award on April 23; TU Wien’s announcement names the whole winning group. Give the man his applause.

His connection with Lukas is older than this campaign. Both appear on the 2023 NeurIPS paper Quantification of Uncertainty with Adversarial Models, alongside Kajetan Schweighofer, Günter Klambauer and Hochreiter. In June 2026, Ielanskyi was first author of RREDCoT, again working with Schweighofer, Aichberger and Hochreiter. That paper investigates how to reward useful portions of a model’s reasoning instead of judging only the eventual answer.

The sporting attraction is obvious: this is someone who spends his research life asking how machines reason, where they go wrong and how to make the process better. TU Wien’s biography places uncertainty, post-training, decoding and life-science applications among his interests. In our illustration, his own tousled hair and full reddish beard stay unmistakable under the cyan-and-green ARC suit.

The professor in the orbit—and what comes after the next submission

There is a professor with form in this story. Günter Klambauer is Sestak’s named supervisor and a collaborator of both Lukas and Mykyta. JKU credits his research with self-normalizing neural networks, xLSTM and machine learning for the life sciences. His scientific competition record includes the winning Bioinf@JKU teams in the 2014 Tox21 challenge and a best-performing method in the 2013 DREAM Toxicogenetics challenge. The encouragement he gave Sestak came from someone who knows what a scientific contest feels like.

One identification remains open: the roster’s gklambauer account supplies no real name or personal portrait. Its two public Kaggle comments correct descriptions of self-normalization in an older notebook. The handle and research connections make the professor an obvious lead, but we have not found a direct account link that confirms he owns it. We therefore keep the fourth member under that handle and use a deliberately fictional masked dancer, not Kaggle’s generic goose or a borrowed human face.

What are they doing next? The public trail is busy. Sestak is a coauthor of Bi-FORK, released on October 8, on modelling physical systems with several possible outcomes. Aichberger is pursuing efficient reasoning and robust agents. Ielanskyi’s recent work tackles reasoning, rewards and exact puzzle solving. In their wider research circle, Klambauer coauthored the October 19 KronLSTM paper on long-context memory. These are real projects readers can follow; none establishes what is inside the team’s current ARC3 agent.

For the competition, the delicious unanswered question is what The Last Dance has left for the finish. The reviewed public discussions do not reveal its next submission or a promised release date. We do have a four-account contender that has twice reached third in the saved October record, now defending fifth while the pack closes behind it. The name says last dance. The board says the music is still playing.
