Peter Findley’s next move: can human mastery become an AI edge?

A master’s record

Peter Findley deserves closer attention. Our October 11 check found the Peter_Findley account sharing the fewest recorded actions for a perfect win on each of the 25 public games. Those minima are shared with other players, but the breadth is the point: every game, played to the best recorded standard. That is a human master’s record. It gives the interest around his competition entry a particularly compelling human dimension.

What has he learned?

Human mastery could change the quality of the questions a builder asks. A practised player may recognise a useful observation sooner, retire a false theory before it burns the budget, or notice that a plan has drifted from what is actually on the board. The interesting unknown is which of those judgments Peter has made explicit in his agent—and which proved difficult to transfer. That is where a detailed account of his work could teach us something.

Is it all harness engineering?

Harness engineering is one plausible answer. Cleaner state tracking, better memory, a more useful action interface and a disciplined reset policy could give the model better conditions to work in. Human experience may shape those choices: knowing what deserves attention can influence what the harness preserves and what it discards. The explanations can overlap. We would like to understand which decisions made a difference in Peter’s entry.

The part we want to hear about

If the starting point is a shared notebook, the instructive story would be the choices made around it: what he retained, replaced, simplified and tested. Which lessons from his own play earned their keep? A clear account of those decisions would be valuable beyond one leaderboard position. The story to pursue is how a human master turns good judgment into an agent’s choices.

The ARC Daily Digest’s take: Deep domain knowledge could improve the questions a builder asks and the experiments an agent runs. Peter’s human record gives that possibility substance. We want to understand the decisions behind the result: the observations he valued, the waste he removed, and the parts of the harness he trusted.
